What is Java Channel ?

Java-Channel is a site where people exchange their recommendations about Java resources (classes, compilers, IDE, articles, ...). Anyone can share his/her point of view about any valuable resources for Java. The goal is to build together a descriptive database of such resources.

Java-Channel is also a thematic search engine about Java resources. You can search by categories, date, fulltext, ... Its particularity is to return results organized, commented, and evaluated by other people, not the raw results from an automatic tool.

You share your point of view by editing a review. This review is about a web resource (url). It contains a rating, a comment, and a list of categories. Multiple members may give a different review on the same resource. When displaying results of a search, the system compute a synthesis of all reviews.

Categories are chosen from a thesaurus (i.e. a tree-structured dictionary). Categories are a useful to classify resources and to retrieve them quickly. For instance, an article about JDBC will be classified with categories 'Document type/Paper/Articles' and 'API/J2EE API/JDBC'.

Categories are useful to search resources because you are sure that results match your query and you can refine the results with other categories. For instance, if you select JDBC you will get many results. To reduce the number of results your can refine your query with another category, a date or some words. For instance, you can get only articles about JDBC.

To publish your review, you first need to sign-up (it's free and your just need to choose a login name and a password). Then, you can publish your review either on an already reviewed resources (just by selecting 'Edit your Review' on the page of reviewed resource) or on a new resources. In this latter case, you should use the 1-Click Review : you go to the page to review and you just select 1-Click Review button in your browser bookmarks/favorit. Then, the review form appears with the URL and the title pre-filled.
